WORKSHOPS

Obviously our workshops have been thrown into a tailspin with Covid 19. So we are doing our best and scheduling some Zoom workshops.

Thank you for your patience as we try to arrange decent things in this decidedly indecent and annoying time.

We have been running zoom workshops and they seem to be working well. However our workshops typically take place on Thursdays or Saturdays from 9 AM until 3 PM. Workshops are held at either the Pepperell Community Center or the Groton Senior Center. Both facilities are ideal, with plenty of space and light. Don't forget that you'll need to pay for each workshop separately at the time you sign up. Our retreats which are open workshops are held at the wonderful Waterville Valley Inn in New Hampshire. Our open sews are at the Pepperell Community Center. They meet from 9 AM to around 3 PM. You may bring your lunch or head out to some local places. There is a refrigerator, microwave and stove at the center. Dessert will be provided. Mark your calendar as they are lots of fun and a great way to meet other members.

WORKSHOPS:

News from the Quilt Cupboard and Membership:

The SCQG Quilt Cupboard will meet at the Groton Senior Center in their large activity room. There will be maximum of 12 people. Please contact Jan Dillon or Sue Houde for more information.

The Quilt Cupboard is interested in expanding the distribution of finished quilts. They are asking if you could think about sites like shelters for battered women and children, or other agencies that we could make regular donations of quilts to those who may need them. It would be helpful to come up with a list of places we would like to make regular donations to, so that we could get more involved in the wider community and spread the joy of receiving a new quilt. More to come on this, but first, please email houdesusan@yahoo.com with ideas of agencies in our geographic area that are potential sites for us to contact. Identifying an agency does not mean you need to be the liaison for that agency.

Days in November and December have been reserved for the Quilt Cupboard workshops so that we can work further on putting together quilt kits for our Drop Off/Pick Up Days and for you to work on Cupboard projects. With the holidays coming we have had to change days for the workshops. The work room is available to us from 8-12 the following days. I will plan to be there for the 4 hours each day, but feel free to drop in anytime during these hours at the Center in West Groton There is plenty to do. We will be keeping groups small and open to our Quilt Cupboard crew. Please let me know if you can attend any of these workshops.

The dates we will meet are : Thursday November 19. 8-noon Thursday December 10. 8-noon Thursday December 17. 8-noon

We will have a drop-off/pick-up day on November 28 from 10-12, but will not have a day in December because of Christmas.

We will begin to distribute quilts to older adults needing a quilt for comfort through the Groton Council of Aging. The quilts will be distributed by the Council after requesting a quilt through me. If anyone would like to establish a relationship with the Council of Aging in your town, could you please contact them and let me know how it goes. I think the Council of Agings should have a good idea of who the older adults in town are who would benefit from a quilt. We continue to distribute quilts to Project Linus, Emerson Cancer Center and I still plan to contact LGH Cancer Center. Please consider contacting other groups so that we can set up additional organizations through which we can distribute our quilts. Also could you also let me know if you have distributed a quilt to anyone in the past month.

Thanks for all you do for the Quilt Cupboard and hope to see you all soon! Sue and Jan

OPEN SEWS:

Unfortunately our Open Sews have been cancelled for now. Hopefully we will be able to restart them sometime soon.
